Personalia:

Philipp Frey has successfully completed his doctorate “Towards an automated (anti-)utopia?” at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at KIT. His “critical analysis of the contemporary discourses on automation” was funded by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.

Bismark Razak Haruna is working at ITAS on the question of how the social impacts of products and supply chains can be assessed. His paper “Social Life Cycle Assessment of Sodium Ion Batteries” has now been shortlisted by the jury of the GAIA Master Student Paper Awards 2024.

Somidh Saha is one of two winners of the YIN Grant 2024. The award, worth a total of 25,000 euros, is given by the Young Investigator Network of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Saha’s share of the grant will go toward a project to research the local cooling potential of urban trees.

New staff members:

Sayan Das (Research for Sustainable Energy Technologies)
Veronika Stein (Designing Real-World Laboratory Research)
Eshagh Khaki (Research for Sustainable Energy Technologies)
Anna Rifat Klassen (Philosophy of Engineering, Technology Assessment, and Science)

“Working in transdisciplinary projects requires the knowledge of many people. However, the challenge is often to make this knowledge accessible, comprehensible, and thus useful for others. At ITAS, I want to work with my colleagues to help better understand and shape these processes. For example, we are working on bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to shape the energy transition in a sustainable way.”
Janine Gondolf, philosopher of technology at ITAS
