“VISION ASSESSMENT” FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATION
To better understand how visions of the future influence innovation and
transformation processes, researchers at ITAS have developed the vision
assessment method. A guide for practical application has now been
published.

CALL FOR PAPERS: VARIETIES OF KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION
In October 2023, ITAS will host the international workshop “Varieties
of Knowledge Production and its Relevance for Societal Transformation”
in Karlsruhe. Contributions can be submitted until 30 June 2023.
https://www.itas.kit.edu/english/events_2023_knowledge_ws.php
TRUST AND RELIABILITY IN RESEARCH
ITAS investigates the conditions and reasons for trust, distrust, and
reliability in science, technology, and innovation. The new projects
iRECS and IANUS, both funded by the European Commission, address this
topic.

ITAS ADVISES THE BUNDESTAG FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS
The Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment of the
German Bundestag unanimously decided in its meeting on 21 June 2023 to
commission ITAS with the further operation of TAB until 2028.

POLICY ADVICE TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
In addressing pressing policy challenges such as building resilience to
disruptions and ensuring environmental sustainability, the European
Parliament’s STOA Panel continues to draw on the expertise of a group
of international TA institutions led by ITAS.

STUDY ON SUSTAINABLE COOLING
As temperatures rise, so does the need for cooling and air conditioning
in Germany. The TAB short study sheds light on the interaction between
climate change and cooling demand and shows what sustainable innovations
and cooling strategies can look like.
https://www.tab-beim-bundestag.de/english/news-2023-05-sustainable-cooling-in-germany-status-quo-and-future-perspectives.php
STUDY ON CHATGPT
The application potential and societal impact of AI language models were
the focus of a public session of the Committee on Education, Research
and Technology Assessment on 26 April 2023. TAB submitted a background
paper on this topic.
https://www.tab-beim-bundestag.de/english/news-2023-04-study-on-chatgpt-for-the-german-bundestag.php
MONITORING FOR THE AUSTRIAN PARLIAMENT
Since the beginning of the year, ITAS has been monitoring
socio-technical developments for the Austrian parliament, alongside the
Institute of Technology Assessment (ITA) in Vienna. Now the researchers
have presented their first joint report.

“Knowing the spectrum of possible technological consequences at an
early stage helps to make good use of the potential of innovations and
to minimize their risks. At ITAS, we therefore develop knowledge for
action for all those who shape scientific and technological progress and
the use of its results.”
