openTA stands for the Specialized portal Technology Assessment, available at www.openta.net. openTA is a web-based specialist portal for the interdisciplinary research field of technology assessment. Its main goal is to improve information, communication, and co-operation within the TA community. The project develops and maintains services for this purpose that can be offered and used both centrally via the specialist portal and in a decentralized form via integration into the websites of the respective TA institutions. In this way, the portal strengthens the international community of TA institutions, supports teaching, and also promotes a broad public use of TA knowledge.

The portal was funded by the DFG over two periods (development and expansion of central services) and was positively evaluated by the DFG in 2019. The aim of this follow-up project is the further development and internationalization of the portal. To this end,

• the technical requirements will be adapted even more precisely to the needs of the community,
• the individual services will be modified in such way that they can also be used by the international (especially the English-speaking) community,
• and the coordination of the individual TA institutions among each other will be improved and expanded according to their needs through regular workshops.

open TA closely cooperates with the globalTA network, which was founded in 2019 (https://globalta.technology-assessment.info).

The specialist portal further expands the existing high-quality services. This includes, for example, the possibility to enhance own data via Linked Open Data (LOD) or to access standard data and identifiers. In addition, new features are planned based on the community’s suggestions. For this purpose, ITAS continues the cooperation with the technical partner FIZ.
