ITAS will operate TAB for another five years [07.03.2013]
In the coming five years, ITAS will again operate the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Parliament (TAB). This has unanimously been decided by the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment (ABFTA) of the German Bundestag at its meeting on 27 February 2013. The German Parliament is deciding every five years on this. Since the establishment of TAB in 1990, the Bundestag has always transferred this task to ITAS.
The Office of Technology Assessment at the German Parliament (TAB) is an independent scientific institution that advises the German Parliament and its committees on matters of scientific and technological change. The duties and tasks of TAB in the next period, from 29.08.2013 to 28.08.2018, will continue as before: to design and carry out technology assessment projects, to monitor and analyze scientific and technological trends and related social developments and to study innovation processes. The common aim of these activities is to assess social, economic and environmental opportunities and risks of new socio-technical developments in order to provide options for policy makers. TAB's overall aim is to supply the German Bundestag with information, based on scientific research, for the policy-making process.
TAB will be supported in the next period of its operation by three partners: The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ (Leipzig), the Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT) (Berlin) and VDI / VDE-IT (VDI / VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Berlin).
